By incorporating art into the Montessori philosophy of education, the art program not only enhances children’s fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination but also encourages them to think critically and express themselves authentically through visual means.
Arts Development
Curriculum Objectives
Children engage in the following curriculum objectives when they are developmentally ready to do so. The teacher’s role at this level is to “follow the child” and to take cues from the child’s interests and mental and physical development. This varies with each child.
Through the Montessori art program, children have the opportunity to engage in activities that promote self-expression, imagination, and problem-solving skills. From painting and drawing to sculpture and mixed media projects, students are exposed to a diverse range of artistic experiences that help them cultivate a love for creativity and aesthetics.
